With the school and student permission we are including each graduating class to the database, keeping the link strong with the newest Alumnus’.
The Sam Richardson project has also increased our database of contacts as many older graduates have asked to be added for future events and information.
- Through donations, we now have access to a laptop for events, new contacts can be added quickly.
- We have a dedicated Database Committee who work hard to update and verify contacts.
- FUTURE GOAL: We are looking for an easier way to be online at events
We helped Student Council with seed money and planning fundraisers.
- Initiated an extensive yearbook cleanup and cataloging project (1940’s – 2018)
- Planned, coordinated and attended: Prom Pop-up Shop week, Spring Concerts, Grade Nine Welcome Days and the True to Blue Sports events.
- Attended 2018/19 graduation, presenting our bursary: Success! The CTS Way! To Sarah Neville.
- Attended and spoke at ROM Connects: “Black History is Canadian History Behind the Scenes (St. John’s Ward)”
Help with any postponed Grade 8’s visitation & tour days.
Help with rescheduling issues: Prom 2020, Semi formal and Graduation.
Sam Richardson Project: A Heritage Toronto bronze plaque honouring Olympian Sam Richardson has been completed and is now at Central Tech for safe keeping. The installation and unveiling event to be announced. The Alumni are commemorating the event with two new bursary awards in 2020/21.
Archiving Report: The Archives committee has been working with TDSB archives staff to sort and catalogue original art in the Art Building featuring works by Aba Bayefsky, Bruno Bobeck and Tony Battaglia. An Alumni Gallery is now set up in the Art Building lower floor. The Alumni are working with the Battaglia family to introduce a new bursary award.
Community Engagement: We hope that the CTS Community Swim will resume in the Fall 2020. Funding is an ongoing need to continue with the program.
The 2020 New Alumnus and Moving Forward
Lately I have been asked how I feel about the CTS Alumni Association’s future going forward: what is our future role, and how will we work through all issues and needs as they arise.
The CTSAA is a group of individuals bound together by their time at TECH… We want to give back or pay forward. We have the talent and we are resourceful; although we had to physically stop meetings in February as the COVID-19 virus set in, we stayed connected via emails and conference calls when social distancing became the norm.
We were in the middle of planning an especially important event; the installation of a historic plaque together with Heritage Toronto and the TDSB, to honour Olympian Samuel Richardson. Due to COVID-19, it was decided that we needed to postpone the event until September. Did this create disappointment? Of course it did, but as important as the event is, we have to recognize that in spite of the delay we met our goal of creating this plaque for a treasured Alumnus, we met our fundraising goal, and we did it together as a vital and thriving Alumni group.
We are the TECH Alumni and we are dedicated and involved…
We CAN help and WANT to help.
The CTSAA can always use new members. If you have any ideas or means to assist us; we invite you to contact us as firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Alumni, the school, the community, and all future students need a strong Alumni. Consider this a call to pay forward for the time you spent at TECH and to keep the TECH spirit alive and thriving.
